I moved into my current apartment in mid-April and have been living without a couch during that entire 5-month span. Decorating efforts were a tad stalled, to say the least. The coming cooler weather has me tidying up my nest and preparing it for all the time that will be spent hunkering down indoors  with a fire on those blustery winter weekends. I recently acquired a fabulous couch and it has completely reinvigorated my urge to decorate my living room. The images above are all on my Pinterest boards and have been serving up inspiration lately. One common thread I’m noticing in the images that speak to me the most are the sharp black and white contrasts, jewel tone accents, cowhide rugs, and large statement pieces of art. Now that I mention it, my wardrobe has been trending towards this aesthetic as well. My favorite piece in all of these photos though? That stunning black piano in the last image. I once dated a guy who could play Beethoven and Mozart from memory and to this day my memories of those piano dates leave me swooning.

Metallic Colorblock

top: Stylemint // skirt: J. Crew (old; similar) // shoes: Kate Spade // necklace: J. Crew (an alternate one I’m lusting after) // watch: Michael Kors

I was so anxious to wear these Kate Spade pumps last week I couldn’t stop dreaming of all the outfit pairings I could make with them. Gold + black is a veritable obsession of mine in both clothing and interiors and it has only been intensifying lately as I find myself craving simplicity after the profuse amount of color I’ve been wearing all summer long. Not only are chunkier heels making a comeback, but there are numerous shoes that have metallics incorporated in their design in some way or another. These are the best I’ve come across and I know they’ll be a big player in my wardrobe this fall and winter. What staple pieces have you been adding to your closet lately?
